Thank you for the comment Cavan. That is correct, updating the line item will also get the total to update itself. I made a mistake on the post, and left out a step. Sorry about that.

When you change the tax:
“5. You will see two taxes with the same name, select the one was not originally selected.”

You should select the tax rate ‘---‘ and then select the new tax. This will ensure that the totals add up correctly. I have made the change in the post above, just in case our FreshBooks users do not read all the comments.

CORRECTION to my last comment

You only need to change 1 line item per recurring invoice to get the total correct

Gentlemen,

I had not read this forum and have sent a bug report about the GST in recurring invoices. Now that I have seen this, I have gone and made the change to the recurring profiles. However, there is still an issue. Although the tax rate now shows as 6% and is calculated as 6% the total is the same as if the tax was 7% -- the total hasn't changed.

The fix, for those of you interested, is to change either the cost or the quantity on each line item which forces the math to be done again. You can then change back to the original value.

If you generate your invoices from recurring profiles, you will need to do some extra work after you have updated the tax rate. Unlike new invoices, existing recurring profiles will continue to create invoices that match the original profile. You will need to update them.

1. Click on your “Invoices” tab.
2. Click on your white ‘List of recurring” link.
3. Click the blue ‘edit’ link.
4. Click on the tax drop-down for the appropriate items.
5. You will see two taxes with the same name, select '---' first. This will clear the tax. Next, select the other one was not originally selected.
(You will notice that the tax amount at the bottom right changes from the original to the new tax amount)
6. Click on your Save button.
7. Repeat for other recurring profiles.

As Cavan points out below, you can make a change to the Qty or cost to update the totals as well.
