Thanks Karthikeyan!

I just added the “RunOnceComplete”=dword:00000001 to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] using regedit to get rid of the annoying habit of not going directly to my homepage. It was frustrating!

Hi Bart,

Thanks for posting your thoughts. I'm not sure if it helps, but I did find this useful link on resolving link issue you were describing. You can find out more information at the following web address:

As always, please be careful when editing your registry and always make a backup before doing so.

Hi,

I just installed a VGA card and updated the computer with Microsoft Update and got this problem.

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=74005

I tried to enter the registry parts, however it didn't work. When I click on the home button the browser will go to the home page I use (google).

So somehow it still wants to do the runonce on
a site which doesn't excist...

Has anyone got another idea how to solve this problem?

Today I had the same problem: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=74005. I spent on this sht just one day!!!
I resolved it changing Profile change in Virus Baster-2008. Changed it from Home Network 2 to Home Network 1. My OS is Win XP Home Edition SP3. My PC was infected and I think it was changed by viruses. I think the problem is not in IE 7.0 at all. A little change causes big problems!!!

I went through the process of updating my registry and still had the same problem...but when we got rid of TrendMicro PC-cillin and installed BitDefender the problem resolved itself.

We did switch to Firefox, but our CRM program didn't work well with it.

Thanks so much Karthikeyan!

I was out of ideas after trying every other IE default page fix out there, including my own idea of deleting all go.microsoft.com entries from the registry.

I cannot believe such a major company can get so many simple things wrong so often. Usually, it's because they insist on taking control out of the hands of users.

Go Firefox. Go Linux.

Hi Kjmeztisa,

You can use notepad or any other plain-text text editor to save the file. Keep in mind that editing your registry is a dangerous operation if you have not done it before. Please do so at your own risk.

Cheers,

Daniel
