Hi Levi, Thanks for posting this story. I've just run into this exact same scenario after 3 weeks of trying to get answers. Please get in touch if you have any other advice or have since learned of a way to shorten this process. I can't believe that such a common use case is such an anomoly to do.

Thanks,
Mike

Any chance you could work some of this magic to get my (US) bank to stop charging me a "foreign fee" on my transactions with you?

Usually this fee (3%, I think) is charged when I make a transaction in a foreign currency. It's a ripoff, but it sort of makes sense. But my bank still charges the fee even when a foreign company bills me in USD.

So, if there's any way you could convince MasterCard that you're American as well, that would be swell. But if it's another three years of work, well, you probably have more important things to do.

Hi Steve,

Thanks, it was a long haul! Yeah, all Canadian businesses are charged 5% GST on the total in USD. At the end of the month, we add up the total GST charged, convert it to CAD and submit it to the feds.

Hey Levi,

As a fellow Canuck I feel your pain. Tenacity does pay off!

Are you charging Canadian customers GST in US$, then converting internally?
