Canadian business legend Ted Rogers has died
Ted Rogers, indisputably one of Canada’s most legendary business figures, died yesterday at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Successful, pioneering and visionary, Ted built a media empire by making big bets. There were times when no one believed Rogers would crawl out from under all the debt he took on, but counting on recurring revenue from Cable TV, and his legal mastery of the government regulation of telecommunications, Ted and his company Rogers survived and prospered.
Our condolences go out to Ted’s family and friends. CBC coverage can be found here.

Having worked for Rogers Communications for over 6 years I feel proud to have had the opportunity to grow and learn from Ted Rogers forward thinking and innovation.
His drive, passion, and ambition are what moved his company forward.

I guess it’s added value to my education of who business people are, whether in Canada or here in Los Angeles, so thanks, Mike.
But what impresses me is the fact that Mike McDerment and the rest of the FreshBooks team care so much to give reports such as this, send condolences to the family, and overall make Freshbooks users like myself feel like we really are part of a family.
I can’t say enough good things about FreshBooks, and am constantly recommending them to my clients, vendors and colleagues.
Hey, when’s the next dinner in Los Angeles?

Men like him showed us what real business is about. Its about Venture, its about passion and its about to be smart. Most other businessmen/women nowadays just had luck.
We lsot anotehr hard working man. The future will show if a Veteran can be displaced by rookies. I dont think so. It will take alot of time to compensate.
Regarts and condolences.

@chaz – thank you for the kind words; next dinner in LA could not come soon enough.
For anyone who does not know Ted Rogers, I think I was a little short on details and context in this write-up. Ted amassed a person net worth of $7 Billion building Rogers. Very impressive accomplishment…probably should have included that in the post, but there it is. Canada lost one of the most successful entrepreneurs it’s ever known – he’ll be missed.
