Upcoming Workshop: Building a Web App Business on June 16

by Rayanne Langdon - May 6/2009

As many of you may recall, our courageous leader, Mike McDerment, led a workshop a few weeks ago called How to Build a Web App Business at none other than our very own headquarters! This was the first time we had visitors since moving into our new home a couple months ago, and we were dying to show off the new digs. Folks interested in building their own web app business travelled all the way from Washington D.C., Chicago, Saskatoon, Ottawa and of course, Toronto and the GTA (Greater Toronto Area).

Now, before I tell you about all the great stuff entrepreneurs from across Canada and the United States learned and before I show you how much fun we all had, let me take this moment to make an announcement:

We’re holding another workshop!

That’s right, folks. How to Build a Web App Business the sequel, the rerun, Electric Boogaloo or whatever suffix suffices will be held on Tuesday, June 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Seating is limited to 40 people and the cost is $100 per person. We’ll even make sure you don’t leave hungry or beer-less. Register now!

Mike will address many of the questions you have as entrepreneurs through topics such as:

Building – your web app, your company, your team
Marketing – with and without dollars
Product management – so you know what’s right to build
Metrics – to track your progress
Financing – the who, what, when, where, why and how 5Ws of fund raising

There’s a guaranteed a spot for any out of towners (well, outside Ontario-ers) who want to attend.

You know you want to be here! Just check out what Katherine Regnier of 24hrAssistant had to say about her day at our last workshop:

Thank you for a brilliant workshop. Mike shared some amazing and critical information about How to Build a Web App. Also, the staff was awesome and so friendly. I wouldn’t think twice about attending any FreshBooks event.

After the event, Matt Rintoul from Say Yeah! tweeted:

#freshbooksworkshop was great! @mikemcderment gave an engaging talk on starting a web app co. Met some great peeps, and saw @rlangdon too!

Planing to make this workshop like a webcast, e-seminar, kind of thing?

That would be great for people outside north america.

Hey Pedro!

We might post a summary and key learnings from the workshop, but won’t be streaming or posting a video of the whole day. Stay tuned for more goodness, though!

Hi Rayanne,
Whatever you could provide would be appreciated, it’s just too far to travel for one day from the west coast.

I am from Paris and I would love to attend… Why won’t you set up a webcat, live coverage or something instead of keeping it local ?

For sure, Mike! I hear you : )

For out of towners (I´m one), even though it´s a one day workshop there are a million and one reasons to visit Toronto, so much is happening there! My home town was Boston (now Denver), I loved heading up there. Very cosmopolitan, international, etc. with lots of young companies growing there.

I totally agree with the other comments. A webcast, recorded set of presentations for download (e.g., Camtasia), physical delivery on DVD or something similar would be awesome.

I’m sure there’s more than $100 value there and I bet people would pay more than that for a more accessible version (I know I would).

Keep us posted. Thanks!

Yes, Agree! stream it, or sell the DVD’s…we need this info. We’ll pay the $100! …..It’s a huge travel from Texas to get there.

Please let me know how to get this!

Hey folks,

We’re seriously so thrilled that you want to be a part of our workshop! Keep in mind, though, we won’t be streaming or posting a video of the day-long event.

It’s too bad you can’t make this one, but keep your eyes peeled for future events : )

Yes, agree with most above..

I’m very surprised 8-o the *Where* is in “Canada” and not in “Cyberspace” ;-)

Waiting for a DVD Box Set to come out. :o }

Congrats on appearing on front cover of E100 Mag !!! My destiny awaits heh.

I think there’s a lot of us here from all over the world who would love to access this content in some way, a physical workshop is great, but what about doing a webinar version for those of us who can’t travel?

I would love to attend, but I will be at a domain conference in Washington, DC on that day. I live in Greensboro, NC (US) and I would definitely fly to Toronto if you do this again.

I am from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Nothing beats the face-to-face workshop type learning. However, I would also keep my fingers crossed for the summary of key learnings. This I believe will help me take my new web app idea to the next level.
