Tell us: What makes your heart leap for joy?

We’ve noticed there is a common thread woven into each conversation with our customers: crikey do these people love what they do. Whether they left a corporate gig to become a professional dog walker or spent many sleepless nights getting a start-up off the ground, the FreshBooks network is full of incredibly dedicated business-owners who have dared to dream big!

It’s in honor of you (and Valentine’s Day of course) that we ask: when it comes to what you do for work, what are the things that make your heart leap for joy? Why do you love your gig? Take a break from your hard work and share with us why your job makes your heart leap on Twitter, Facebook or by leaving a comment below and we’ll pick some of the most inspiring answers throughout the day!  Our favorites will receive a $50 itunes giftcard.

This contest kicks off our “Follow Your Heart” series where we’ll share FreshBooks customer stories with all of you through our blog and social networks in the coming months. We know that being a freelancer, running a small business or launching a start-up is no cakewalk, we’d like to host your inspiration so that other folks can learn from you!

Psst! If you’re going to be in Austin for SXSW on March 10th & 11th, come by our “Studio On-Demand” (a well-equipped RV you’ll spot roaming downtown) and we’ll do an exclusive video interview with you!  Sign up here!

Everyday is an opportunity to build something. :)

I get to help make a difference in the lives of others. What I love about my job, is that I get to be a part of something far greater than myself. I love that I don’t need to be the star of the show to make a difference. My clients are music makers and resolution finders. Everyday is about connecting genuinely with other people (often strangers).

I love a challenge that really pushes me. When a potential client presents me with a project and I endure long nights to figure it out and at the end I can say, “aha – there ya go!”

I love the flexibility of working wherever I want. Right now I’m sitting at my dining room table developing a website while my daughter is ten feet away getting some school work done.

Being a freelancer has allowed me to have autonomy over my work hours, my clientele, and the projects I work on. I am not limited to how many hours I can spend on designing, rather I am able to work until the job is done up to my satisfaction. But most of all I love being able to do what I love. My name is Travis and I am a graphic designer.

Creativity. Unbound. Limits set by no one but me. There isn’t a suit standing before me, telling me I can’t. Giving me the patronizing ‘there there, you go back to your computer and leave the big thinking for us boys with the PhD’s…’

I want to echo what everyone else said above, plus this from “Invictus” – After walking away from 20 yrs. in gov’t and corporate, the denied promotions and messages of being unworthy of my salary, it spoke to me:

“It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.”

I get to great apps for people that have great ideas. Then I take everything I learn and teach everyone one else how to do the same thing.

Meeting expectations of a very demanding customer. It’s like winning the lottery around here.

My job is working with new parents and their babies, from delivery to when they go home. Whether its their first or their seventh, new parents are always filled with questions. We are there to teach, support and give them a great start on their new lives. Doesn’t get much better than that.

I work with entrepreneurs and small businesses getting their finances in order. I love being able to free up people to do what they are best at by assuring them that their finances are taken care of. I love the fact that helping small businesses succeed is also helping my own small business succeed!

I’m a transportation engineer. It brings me joy when the public is excited that we’ve built a new facility to make their commute to work faster and more importantly safer!

Using https://stripe.com payments on my website. The thought of freshbooks supporting this payment API ALSO makes my heart flutter. Seriously, think about supporting it, sweetheart.

I work in social media and content marketing, and I’m having the time of my life. Every day brings something a little bit different – a new client to chat with, a new problem to solve, a new blog post to read or write, a new tool or trick of the trade to test out and play with. Every day I wake up and I’m excited to “go to work” – that is, get up, make some coffee, sit down at my desk and start working.

I am always learning and always building. But most of all, my success comes from helping others succeed, and what in the world could possibly be better than that?

(It also helps that I’m a new convert to FreshBooks and it makes everything SO EASY.)

I love learning, creating new designs, learning new technologies, trying something different, and making great things happen for our clients. Of course, FreshBooks helps us succeed every day.
