Monday, Feb. 20th, FreshBooks office closes for Family Day / Presidents’ Day
FreshBooks support is unavailable today (Feb. 20, 2011) as it is Family Day in Ontario, Canada. If you have a support query, please email us and we’ll get back to you tomorrow.
Since you might be wondering why Monday is indeed a holiday, we’ve prepared a brief holiday overview, for your viewing pleasure!
The third Monday in February is a holiday in North America for two different reasons. In Canada we celebrate Family Day, a holiday bestowed upon Ontario in 2008 as part of an election campaign promise. It’s usually a great time to go for a weekend of skiing or tobogganing!
Our neighbors to the south celebrate Presidents’ Day which is in honor of George Washington (pictured above) and is on the third Monday in February since it is the closest to his birthday. Unlike family day, Presidents’ Day has been around since 1880 and funnily enough, it never ever lands upon George Washington’s actual birthday of February 22nd. (PS. Did you see us also feature George Washington in this month’s Leaflet?)
Here are some other notable events that are celebrated on February 20th:
- It’s Rihanna, Kurt Cobain and Cindy Crawford’s birthdays
- American figure skater Tara Lipinski became the youngest gold medalist at the winter olympics in Nagano, Japan (1998)
- In 1872 the Metropolitan Museum of Art opened in New York City
So whether it’s President’s Day, Family Day, your birthday or just plain Monday we hope it’s a good one!
