Director of Communications

Do you know how to get noticed? Do the words “cross-platform integrated communications” strung into a sentence sound like music to your ears? Do you have a passion for telling a story, leading a team and making a difference? Yes? Then we’re glad you’re here. You might just be FreshBooks’ new Director of Communications.

As a seasoned marketing communications pro, you have the experience and drive to lead our in-house earned and owned media group and grow our business through these channels. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, you will play a critical role in developing and executing on and offline communications plans with a primary focus on our key US market, as well as owning and managing outside agency relationships. The online world is a natural comfort zone for you and you are keen to work in an online business. You have a passion for small business and entrepreneurship and love being a part of seeing them succeed.

You will:

  • Take the lead in driving our presence in traditional and non-traditional USA media, social media platforms, targeted outbound communication and key owned properties.
  • Work with the CMO to have your team execute the communications strategy and provide clear direction, guidance and mentorship to internal and external team members and partners.
  • Lead and develop marketing projects that generate media buzz and raise the profile of FreshBooks.
  • Bring business acumen and bench strength to the broader FreshBooks marketing leadership team.

We need you to have:

  • 7-10 years of leadership experience in either client side or agency side (please identify examples of campaigns and projects)
  • Grown & mentored smart teams and are a natural leader.
  • Been a key part of driving business growth.
  • A passion for customer service and experience with the online business world.
  • A complete senior business skills toolkit and Rolodex of major traditional & non-traditional media partners across the USA.
  • The ability to inspire confidence and respect.
  • A quick mind and a good sense of humor.
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in communications, marketing, business or public relations.
