Authorize.Net
To set up your system to use the Authorize.Net plugin:
- Retrieve your Authorize.net Login ID and Transaction key:
- Log into the Authorize.net Merchant Interface.
- Click "Settings" link in the main left side menu.
- Click "API Login/Transaction Key".
- If an API Login ID needs to be configured, this page is where the option exists. If an API login ID has already been configured, it will be visible here.

- Navigate to your payment plugins page inside FreshBooks:
- Login to your FreshBooks account.
- Click your white "Settings" link at the top right of your page.
- Click your blue "Payment plugins" link located under the "Step 7" heading.
- Enable the Authorize.Net plugin:
- Scroll down to the Authorize.Net logo.
- Enter your user ID and transaction key (you get these from Authorize.Net).
- Check your checkbox labelled "Credit Enabled" to enable credit card payments or check your checkbox labelled "ACH Enabled" to enable eCheck payments.
- If you are enabling credit card payment, select the credit cards that you will accept by checking the appropriate checkboxes at the bottom of your page.
- Click your Save button at the bottom of your page.
- To ensure everything is setup correctly, complete a successful Authorize.Net credit card or eCheck payment before you send any invoices to your clients:
- Create a client account that you can use for testing.
- Create an invoice with a small amount.
- Click your "Invoice" tab, select your test invoice from your list of invoices, then click your "PAY" link located above your list of invoices.
- Enter your name, address information, and credit card information or your ABA routing and account number (these can be found on a check from your bank account).
- Click your Pay Now button and wait for a message regarding success or failure.
- Check your payment history area by clicking on your "Invoices" tab then clicking your white "Payment history" link located near the top of your page.
