FreshBooks Supper Club

This month’s edition of the Supper Club may seem a bit rushed because... well, we have spent the last few days here in the office discussing all things April. Did you know April is the fourth month of the year in the Gregorian calendar and one of four months with a length of 30 days... and don’t get us started on all the celebrities that have April birthdays (Gordon Jump, Buddy Ebsen, Jennie Garth, Nancy McKeon and of course everyone’s favourite Village Person, Alex Briley). So for this reason we almost forgot to include this little intro to this month’s Supper Club. But, like those teeth whitener kiosks at the mall, we know you secretly rely on this part of the Supper Club to remind you that the Supper Club is jammed packed with FreshBooks goodness delivered directly to your inbox. So turn off the television and let yourself get lost in the words that follow!

News & Stuff From Inside the FB Walls

Vote for FreshBooks in the Webware 100 PLEASE!!!

How many times have you heard someone who didn’t win an award say “Seriously, it is an honour just to be nominated”? Well, we are SUPER jazzed to be a finalist, but we would be lying if we said we wouldn’t like to win this thing.

So in very un-FreshBooks-like fashion we are asking - heck we are begging - for you to please vote for us in the Productivity section of the Webware 100 award. And in FreshBooks-like fashion we promise that if we win, our CEO Mike McDerment will re-grow his Glenn Hughes like facial hair to accept the award!

FreshBooks, PC Magazine and The Small Business Web

Mike’s facial hair aside, we have no aspirations of starting a costumed super group (although if we did, I guarantee we would rock), but we HAVE joined forces with a cool group of small businesses all with a clear goal - to make your life easier! All to impress you and perhaps our mothers, FreshBooks is squeezing into a Swedish jumpsuit alongside:

  • BatchBook - A CRM that really understands social media, and now FreshBooks!
  • Shoeboxed - Mail in your paper receipts, and they will scan them in as expenses in FreshBooks.
  • MailChimp - A super easy way to run professional email campaigns for your FreshBooks clients.
  • Outright - (Formerly, Bootstrap) Now imports expenses from FreshBooks to make it easy to track your profit and loss.

I know you’re thinking “Sure that’s really awesome, but I deserve more!” Well, wait, there is more! We all hook up like Velcro. Shoeboxed will scan business cards as contacts in BatchBook; Outright will track receipts from Shoeboxed; and BatchBook can run a mailing list campaign from MailChimp. Together we’ve become the Small Business Web.

We are doing this for a few reasons: One, ‘cause it is kinda cool! Two, FreshBooks can offer you more features that will make your life easier. And three, because we wanted to be the Defender of the Universe like Voltron. (The benefits are good.)

Even PCMAG.com noticed what this fine group of companies were doing and was cool enough to bring it to other people’s attention!

Here is a quote from the story but you should totally click here to read the whole thing!

“Partnerships like this allow small companies the ability to offer more robust services than they could on their own. FreshBooks' Colt calls these relationships "the future of small business." Colt says, "By partnering with all these great services like BatchBlue, Outright, Shoeboxed, and others, we allow our customers to have a complete SaaS solution to run their small business.”

FreshBooks Hearts PayCycle for Payroll

We often hear that a lot of you are feeling some pain around payroll. It's surprising how hard it is to actually give someone money! We thought we'd pass on a suggestion.

FreshBooks is all about customer service, but it's surprisingly rare that other companies share our zeal. When we come across one that does, we think it's worth supporting them.

PayCycle is one of those companies, and we are suitably impressed. The folks at PayCycle are some of the nicest people we’ve met, and they genuinely care about their customers.

PayCycle has been serving small business employers for over 8 years with their easy online payroll service. If you have a current payroll provider, or if you have been trying to do it yourself (the agony!) or if you are thinking about hiring your first employee but aren’t sure where to start, check out our good friends at PayCycle at www.paycycle.com.

(Say hi from us!)

FreshBooks is Hiring - With Sweet Perks

Yes indeed – FreshBooks is hiring again. And as if working with some of the coolest people and even cooler customers wasn’t already enough we wanted to remind you that we are right across the street from the only Country Style donut shop in the world that makes Texas Size donuts - Sweet!

So if you’re interested in working at FreshBooks (or know somebody that would be) and live in the Toronto area, please check out our new postings looking for Developer, Marketing, and Customer Service folks on careers.freshbooks.com. And even if those jobs are not your thing but you really want to work here (mmm...donuts) then send us your resume anyway and tell us why we can’t live without you.
