Small business owners are finding unimagined opportunity in the new economy. But it can also create scary uncertainty – after all, everything is NEW! But one thing is certain, when it comes to small business FreshBooks has your back. Last week, we hosted our second #imakealiving event in NYC.
The inspiring panel included Andrea Syrtash (relationship expert and founder of pregnantish.com), Brian Kalma (former Head of Brand & Experience at Zappos), David Feldman (writer for Triumph The Insult Comic Dog, Comedy Central Roasts and The Oscars), Bob Knorpp (host of the popular marketing podcast The BeanCast), Bill Hartnett (former SVP at MSNBC now a creative consultant) and Sara Demenkoff (Director of Program Marketing & Advertising at Showtime Networks).
We were over the moon that this event sold out… we even moved to a larger venue to accommodate as many eager customers and friends as we could! And of course, there’s no need to tell you how exciting it is to visit The Big Apple. It was absolutely electric to be right there in Times Square with a full room of inspiring small business owners.

As with our L.A. Event, the conversation was lively, inspiring and informative. Bob Knorpp discussed the importance of diversifying your revenue streams so you’re never left in the lurch if one line of income hits a rocky patch.
Misconceptions about freelance life always abound. But the truth is freelancers and corporate workers can learn a lot from each other (to each person’s benefit!) Married couple, Bill Hartnett and Sara Demenkoff discussed what they’ve learned from having a freelancer and corporate person living under the same roof.

Ever wonder how to evaluate a project? Some people say “yes” to everything only to find themselves burned-out, bored or frustrated with the “wrong” clients or projects. David Feldman’s advice: Decide what’s important to you. For him, it’s money, fun and glory. If a project doesn’t offer at least two of those things, he passes on it.
