How can I accept American Express (AMEX) through FreshBooks Payments?”

American Express now requires that a bank account be connected to your FreshBooks Payments account before accepting Payments via AMEX Credit Cards. Until your bank account is connected, American Express payments will be declined and your Client will need to use a different credit card to complete the Payment. There are two ways to verify your bank account.

Verifying your bank account through FreshBooks

  1. Click on Settings in the upper right of your account
  2. Click on Accept Credit Cards
  3. Click the Connect Your Bank Account link above the FreshBooks Payments option. This will send an email to the address you used when you signed up with FreshBooks. You can follow the instructions in the email from our partner, WePay, to get set up.
  4. Once this is done, you can return to your Invoice and enable American Express.

Alternatively, once you send an Invoice (by clicking Send by Email) with Online Payments enabled, WePay will send you an verification email to the address connected to your FreshBooks account. Through that email you can follow the directions to connect your bank account.
