Accepting credit cards through FreshBooks: who shouldn’t use it?

Accepting credit cards through FreshBooks - who is it not right tool for?

While accepting payments through FreshBooks is quick and easy, it might not be the best tool for everyone. Here are some of the things the feature can’t do:

1) At this time, the feature doesn’t offer point-of-sale devices that let you physically swipe a credit or debit card. However, for all in-person transactions, your customer can type in their payment information in FreshBooks from a mobile browser window.

2) If your business is based outside of the United States or Canada, you unfortunately won’t be able to accept credit cards through FreshBooks. However, you can still use any of our integrations with other payment gateways (such as PayPal, Stripe,, etc). For a full list of everything FreshBooks works with, check here.

3) There are certain types of businesses that can’t accept credit cards through FreshBooks. If your business activity is listed on the list of ‘prohibited activities’ in the terms and conditions of our partner WePay (who helps us process these payments), you won’t be able to accept credit cards through FreshBooks.
