Can I accept credit cards through the Mobile app?

You certainly can accept credit card payments through the mobile app! The steps to do this differ depending on your operating system, so use choose whether you’re running an iOS or Android device below:

iOS Devices

On your iOS device, you’re able to accept credit card payments on your Invoice through a number of different payment gateways. All new FreshBooks accounts come with a FreshBooks Payments account - just a little setup is needed to finalize your payments account and then money will be flowing into your bank automatically.

To enable FreshBooks Payments on your iOS device, follow these steps:

  1. Create a new Invoice by heading to the Invoices area and clicking on the + in the top right
  2. Towards the bottom of the screen you’ll see an Online Payment section
  3. Enable the FreshBooks Payments option:

  1. A couple of informational screens will appear telling you about FreshBooks Payments if this is the first time you’ve enabled the feature:

  1. Once you’ve gone through those, you can send out your Invoice and your Client will have the option to pay through their Credit Card.


Once you’ve sent out your first Invoice with online payments enabled, you’ll need to finalize the setup of your payments account. You’ll receive an email with instructions on how to do this - it simply involved providing a little company information and your bank account info (so we can send you your payments!) to our payments partners, WePay.

If you’ve already connected other payment gateways to your account through the web, you’ll also have the option to enable these on your Invoices from your mobile device.


Using the FreshBooks Card Reader

If you’re located in the US, we have recently launched our FreshBooks Card Reader, which will allow you to take Client payments right there and then! You can either use the credit card’s magnetic strip or use the chip on the card. For more information on the FreshBooks Card Reader, take a look at this article.



Android Devices

To enable FreshBooks Payments on your Android device, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Invoices button
  2. Create a new Invoice by clicking on the + in the top right corner
  3. Click on the Online Payment option:

  1. Select FreshBooks Credit Cards:

  3. Send the Invoice to your Client and they’ll have the option to pay by credit card!
