What is Braintree?

Braintree is one of our payment gateways that allows you to accept online payments from your Clients. If you haven’t already, you can sign up for Braintree here, and then connect your account (or if you have an existing account already) with the steps below:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Click on the Accept Credit Cards sub-tab
  3. Click on the Activate Braintree link
  4. A pop-up will appear asking for your Merchant ID, Public Key and Private Key
  5. Pop-up for Braintree credentials.
  6. To get these credentials, log into your Braintree account
  7. Go to Settings
  8. Then click on My User
  9. Click on the orange link that says API Keys (if you don’t see any, click on Generate New)
  10. You should now see both the Public and Private Keys
  11. Paste these keys into your FreshBooks account in the pop-up
  12. Click Save to finish.

Note: FreshBooks will only connect with Braintree Blue accounts, not Braintree Orange accounts.

Then to set it up on an Invoice, all you have to do is check off the box next to Braintree in the Accept Credit Cards section to accept payments with it.
