Accountants: The Power of Integrating FreshBooks and Gusto

As small businesses grow, they (and their accountants) need a solid payroll solution that grows with them—and plays well with their accounting software.

Gusto and FreshBooks are two powerful tools that we have brought together to bolster your client services and better support your clients as they scale. The FreshBooks-Gusto integration allows you to easily run your clients’ payroll and track every expense right from their FreshBooks account.

It’s just one of the many ways we strive to help U.S. accounting firms and business owners work better together.

Why Gusto?

Without a doubt, Gusto is one of the most beloved U.S. payroll solutions in the accounting space. More than just a payroll provider, it’s an all-in-one platform that includes hiring, onboarding, benefits, and compliance support. Bottom line: It’s great software.

But Gusto also “gets” FreshBooks—and vice versa. At the heart of everything we do (and why we do it) is our desire to support business owners and their accountants through easy-to-use, supportive, and collaborative software.

Top 5 Benefits of Using FreshBooks + Gusto Together

Here are the top 5 reasons I believe this integration can benefit your firm and your client relationships:

1. It Has Everything You Need—All in One Place

With FreshBooks’ Gusto integration, you’ll never have to waste time toggling between sites or trying to remember passwords. Everything you need to push payroll is easily accessible through your FreshBooks account, saving time for you and your client.

2. It Reduces Human Error

You’ll never again have to pull payroll reports and then create manual payroll entries inside of FreshBooks. Instead, processed payroll in Gusto will automatically be reflected in your client’s FreshBooks account.

Fewer manual processes mean fewer mistakes, so you can provide your clients with the most accurate payroll information possible.

3. It’s a Top-Notch User Experience

FreshBooks and Gusto don’t just work together on a software level—our teams have a real partnership. We’ve worked hard as a collective force to make sure that the integration of our apps is centered around your relationships with clients so that you get the best user experience possible.

4. It Lets You Focus on What Really Matters: Your Clients

Instead of spending time on manual payroll and tracking the ever-changing regulations, spend your time where it matters most: advising your clients.

Let Gusto handle the quarterly 941 filings and annual W-2s and 1099s. This will free up time for you to meet with your clients regularly and offer payroll and financial advice grounded in the quality data provided from pairing the two systems together.

5. It Simply Saves You Tons of Time

Every benefit I’ve already mentioned filters down to one thing: integrating these platforms adds value to your firm by giving you time back.

How the Integration Works

When Gusto is integrated with FreshBooks, it brings you payroll, W-2s, 1099s, payroll runs, and direct deposits. Once connected, any payroll you run in Gusto will be automatically imported into your FreshBooks account in the Expenses section, already categorized for you.

Want to view your Gusto payroll expenses in an Excel spreadsheet? All it takes is 3 easy steps:

  1. Select Reports from the main navigation and click on Expense Report.
  2. Use your filters to group your records by Vendor and see all Gusto entries displayed together
  3. Click “Export your Expense Report to Excel”

Now you’re ready to roll with payroll!

Work Smarter, Not Harder

With FreshBooks’ Gusto integration, accounting professionals have even more power at their fingertips. The two systems work together flawlessly so you can impress your clients, work more efficiently, and put your valuable time back into growing your advisory offerings.

At FreshBooks, we are so keen on supporting accounting professionals in working smarter, not harder, that we’ve created a FreshBooks Accounting Partner Program.

With expert insights and feedback from modern accountants and progressive bookkeepers who have joined our partner program, we are moving toward enhancing our integration further and cultivating more high-caliber integrations.
