In the summer months, the Eiffel Tower can grow more than 6-inches due to the heat. Now, we don’t measure a blog’s success by inches and feet. However, it’s a strong bet to plan for growth when you apply the heat of strong SEO strategies.

Getting noticed is a goal of any content creator, whether you’re a marketer or a blogger. For today’s post, I contacted 11 experts and asked for their insight on the best SEO strategies.

1. Build an SEO Strategies Focused on Empathy

Andy Crestodina: As with everything in marketing, the key is empathy. And it starts from the moment that potential visitor decides they may need help. What are they searching for?

So the best strategy involves keyphrase research. When you publish something on your blog, ask yourself: “People who would want to read this are searching for what?”

If you include that phrase in the post, in the title, the header and the body text, you have a chance of being found. Make it a great page on that topic. You goal is to be the best answer.

2. Find the ‘Low-Hanging Fruit’ Keywords

Fervil Von Tripoli: It’s really all about making things right at the start before doing optimization and link building for any website or blog. I’d say keyword research is the key that will set you apart from your competitors.

Finding the best keywords with close to zero competition and using these keywords in your blog will make the blog’s pages rank faster even without having much effort in backlinking. Therefore, I strongly suggest you spend quality time to research the best keywords.

3. Identify and Write for the Searcher’s Intent

Chris Dreyer: In order to get a blog ranked it has to thoroughly answer the intent of the searcher. It has to answer all their questions in detail or provide them an outlet to get their questions solved.

Read the top ranking pages for your topic for headline (H1) and content body ideas (use ‘Content Explorer’ in Ahrefs, which will also help you see which links those top content pieces have, so you can decide to acquire those exact ones or gives you ideas for equivalent sites).

Find related questions people are asking online about your topic using Answer The Public and Quora.
Include what makes sense from your keyword research into your content keeping the user front and center as the most important judge, not search engines.

7. Make Real Relationships With Key Influencers

Gael Breton: I am sure a number of my colleagues will mention creation exceptional content, targeting the right keywords. The truth is, those things are necessary but in today’s competitive environment, they are not enough. The way to make your blog noticed is also to build relationships with key influencers.

Jamie Knop: If I was to look at the most important thing for actually bringing in traffic it would be how you promote your content, as no matter how good it might be, if you don’t promote it, your chances of it ranking high and bringing in search traffic is going to be slim.

The competition out there is fierce, thousands of similar posts to yours are being created everyday by other people. So why and how do we promote a blog’s content?

You need to promote to get eyeballs on it. Through the promotion (social media, email subscribers) you’ll get traffic from referrals and social but the main aim is to get other websites to link to your content. Why? Because it’s still the most important ranking factor as proven in this study carried out by Moz.

Depending on how many “fans” you have on social and email subscribers you might get a few links from people talking about your content. However, there are better and more direct ways to go about getting links to your content. A few of my favourite strategies are:

  1. Research similar content to yours that already ranks high and is poorly written. Check who links to that content in tools such as Ahrefs and Majestic. Then you can outreach to them telling them about your content, how it might help their readers and if they’d be up for adding a link to it.
  2. If your content is newsworthy (e.g. a study or survey), put together a list of news websites in your niche. Then create a list of journalists and pitch them your content.
  3. Research similar content to yours that ranks high [and] check for any broken links in their content. This way when emailing them you can help them out first by telling them about the broken link and then ask if they’d be up for replacing it with your link.


10. Gain Authoritative and Relevant Backlinks

Colin Klinkert: Once your On Site SEO is sorted, it comes down to ‘Authority + Relevance’ in the backlinks you acquire. Any powerful, related link you can get, will benefit for your domain authority and rankings.

Backlinks are still the strongest ranking factor. Make sure the keywords you want to rank for are mentioned in your article – along with strongly correlated variations – to ensure your link profile is diverse and natural. These really are the keys to ranking.

11. Remain Consistent in Your Efforts

Nate Shivar: Consistently create thorough, useful content that addresses topics/questions that you have pre-qualified for relevance, audience interest, and competition.

The key is consistency in quality, frequency and promotion.
