Values-driven team with big aspirations wins second national employer award of the year
Toronto, Canada – April 10, 2015 – FreshBooks, the #1 cloud accounting software designed exclusively for service-based small business owners, was today recognized as one of this year’s Best Workplaces in Canada. This is the second national employer award the company has received this year, and the fourth received in two years.
Best Workplaces in Canada is an annual award from the Great Place to Work® Institute Canada, which rigorously assesses companies on their culture, values, and practices. Two-thirds of the total score is calculated from an anonymous survey completed by employees; the remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the organization’s culture and people programs.
“FreshBooks is on a mission to build a world-class technology company headquartered in Toronto,” said Mike McDerment, cofounder and CEO, FreshBooks. “It’s an ambitious mission that demands a world-class team of people who bring their heads and hearts into work every day. FreshBookers are committed to making a big, positive impact on their work, on customers’ lives, and on each other.”
FreshBooks hires for and lives by a collection of nine core values called PORCHFEST, which stand for: Passion, Ownership, Results, Change, Honesty, Empathy, Strive, and Trust. These shared values have created a culture that empowers FreshBookers to continuously challenge themselves and each other. As a team, they learn how to solve big complicated problems with simple, customer-friendly solutions — all while having fun together.
“Being named one of 2015’s Best Workplaces in Canada is particularly special for us since it’s based on employee feedback,” said McDerment. “Since day one, we’ve made it a priority to hire people who share our values. Knowing that our team is inspired to be here and excited to work alongside one another lets us know we’re headed in the right direction. As a founder, I couldn’t be more proud.”
Launched in a Toronto basement and bootstrapped for more than a decade, FreshBooks raised $30 million in its first round of institutional funding in 2014 to help fuel its mission to become a global technology leader. FreshBooks’ workforce is virtually doubling every year, and the company is always on the lookout for talented people to join the team, including software developers, designers, product managers and customer support representatives.
